What is Outreach?
Outreach workers help connect people with community supports, useful information, and resources that best fit their current needs. They play an important role in breaking down barriers and reducing stigma by building trust and creating strong connections within the community. By doing this, they make it easier for everyone to access the essential services they deserve.
How Do We Do That?
During outreach in the community and downtown Sudbury, outreach workers distribute harm reduction supplies along with essentials like socks, snacks, and water. They provide support where it’s needed most. They also offer discreet drop-offs of harm reduction supplies and can arrange pick-ups around the community when notified, making it easier for people to access what they need safely and confidentially.
Outreach workers assist community members with filling out forms such as housing, medical, referrals to internal and external services, and applying for ID. They can provide transportation and support to access programs and services such as food support programs on and off reserve, medical appointments, court, and other appointments when scheduled. When visiting the Community Hub outreach workers can provide clothing, hygiene, harm reduction, light snacks, and minor first aid supplies.
What Else?
We are based out of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Community Hub at 66 Elm St, Suite 107, Sudbury, ON, which provides comprehensive support for mental health, addictions, and family violence prevention, including outreach services.
